Butter Chicken

  • 2 lb boneless chicken breast, cubed
  • Salt & Pepper, to taste
  • 2 tspoons chili powder, divided
  • ½ teaspoon turmeric
  • 6 tablespoons butter, divided
  • 1 ½ cups yellow onion, diced
  • 3 teaspoons garam masala
  • 1 teaspoon cumin
  • 1 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • 1 tablespoon ginger, grated
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon cinnamon
  • 14 oz tomato sauce(395 g)
  • 1 cup water(240 mL)
  • 1 cup heavy cream


  • Season the chicken with salt, pepper, 1 teaspoon chili powder, and turmeric
  • In a large pot, melt two tablespoons of butter and cook the chicken
  • Melt 2 tablespoons of butter in the pot, then add the onion, garam masala, 1 teaspoon chili powder, cumin, ginger, garlic, cayenne, cinnamon, salt, pepper.
  • Add the tomato sauce and bring to a simmer
  • Add the cream and water
  • Return the chicken to the pot and simmer
  • Add the remaining butter, and serve.
